What Chambers Are Doing Around the West

Carlsbad Holds Nonprofit Forum

The Carlsbad (CA) Chamber held a nonprofit forum at their recent breakfast with the topic “Marketing for a Cause — Giving Back.

Realizing that many businesses do not know what cause-related marketing means, the chamber put together this event to inform members about the $2 billion industry that benefits both the giver and the receiver. Attendees learned how to incorporate cause-related marketing to help their business grow and benefit the community at the same time.

The chamber has 70+ nonprofit organizations that they spotlighted as opportunities for businesses in the community to help. Eight nonprofits shared their stories about how they are caring for others in the community and opportunities to partner with business.

Vail Introduces Winter Workforce Program

The Vail Valley (CO) Partnership recently announced their new Winter Workforce: Student Visa Job Matching Program. This program partners with host employers and BridgeUSA Visa sponsors, including the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), providing an opportunity to create a win-win situation for both visa students and local employers.

Winter Workforce provides a part-time staffing pipeline for small to mid-size businesses that experience seasonal staffing fluctuations. Visa students already have housing, health insurance, and ski passes through their primary employer, allowing a cost-effective option for employers.

Welcoming international employees also culturally enriches the workplace, adding diversity and inclusion for a global and vibrant atmosphere while providing career exploration and safety for the students.

Another benefit to employers is participating in the program through CIEE ensures that a business’s hiring practices are in compliance with regulations, reducing legal risks and simplifying the hiring process.

The Atascadero (CA) Chamber is rewarding their community for shopping local. For every $100 spent at qualifying local businesses, shoppers are rewarded with the ability to choose a $20 gift card to a local business in the community.

For every $100 spent, $68 stays local and every purchase made makes a big difference in the local community. They use the slogan “Love local now to enjoy local later!”

Participants can earn up to two gift cards per household and gift cards always sell out. Any local retail, restaurant, and personal service business is eligible to participate, and shoppers just have to keep their receipts and submit them to receive the gift card.
