In addition to its regular Academy programming, W.A.C.E. will be offering a special training program for Academy alumni this year called Academy-Plus.
“Academy-Plus is an acknowledgment that learning and improvement should be career-long,” said W.A.C.E. Immediate Past Chair Glenn Morris, ACE, president/CEO of the Santa Maria Valley (CA) Chamber, who is coordinating the program. “I’m proud that the W.A.C.E. Board continues to provide opportunities for us to engage in high-value programs, and I encourage all Academy grads to join us in August.”
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The afternoon session on Monday, August 9 will be led by Amy Shields from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Foundation and will focus on “Exploring Possibilities for Chamber Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Work.”
During this session, participants will learn more about what chambers are doing to tackle diversity, equity and inclusion in their communities. Internal practices around topics like board diversity, hiring, external-facing programs and system change efforts will be discussed. The workshop will include a mix of presentations, individual reflection and group discussion.
Leadership Effectiveness
The morning session on Tuesday, August 10 will be “Insights into Scaling Your Leadership Effectiveness for Greater Impact” and will be led by B Gorman of B Great Leadership.
Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of their personal gifts, challenges and will have initiated a Leadership Development Plan to grow their effectiveness as a leader.
Session components will include traits of effective leaders, reactive tendencies, leadership effectiveness, a personal leadership assessment (taken in advance), exploration of style on a team, and developing your plan.

Registration for Academy-Plus is $300 per person and includes the two workshops, breaks and a Monday evening event with those attending the association’s Academy program.
Space is limited and this year’s program is limited to W.A.C.E. members who are graduates of Academy.
